Hi, all. I'm not a web developer, but there is a sentiment that I've been carrying recently. Over the years, I've never relied on mobile web because mobile browsers were just horrible to use compared to their native app counterparts. But, over the past month, I've been using Brave browser on iOS and iPadOS, and it's been a surprisingly wonderful experience. Heck, I haven't used the native applications a single time in these past 30-ish days! That is: YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, X, ChatGPT, Claude, and Proton mail, among other apps. Mobile browsers have come a long way, which has made me excited for whether or not there is any good news for the foreseeable future.
I've always loved the idea of having mobile browsers reach some level of parity (in terms of usability) with the native mobile apps because it's super convenient to just have everything on one app, easily hoppable through tabs, rather than having 10 apps running at once and having to rummage through those. Not to mention, it's convenient to be able to do things like opening X articles on multiple browser tabs so that I can come back to other feeds whenever I want with a single tap (the mobile app only allows me to view one thing at a time, which is annoying to me).
With all of that said - and this might be a dumb question - is it realistic to assume that mobile browsers will only be getting better from now on and that it's fair to expect them to reach near-UX parity with native apps?
