Recognising how important these technologies have become, the AWS Student Builder Group (SBG) at Graphic Era Deemed to be University was established in 2025 with a simple vision—to help students move beyond textbooks by learning cloud computing through hands-on experience, innovation, and real-world problem-solving.
The AWS Student Builder Group is more than just a technical community; it's a place where students learn by building. Instead of focusing only on theory, the group encourages members to explore new ideas, work on practical projects, collaborate with like-minded peers, and develop skills that matter in the industry. It provides an environment where curiosity is encouraged, mistakes become learning opportunities, and every project helps members grow as engineers.
Students in the community explore a wide range of technologies, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Artificial Intelligence, Full-Stack Development, DevOps, and Open Source. Whether someone is taking their first step into cloud computing or already working on advanced projects, SBG offers opportunities to learn, contribute, and continuously improve.
In a short span of time, the AWS Student Builder Group has grown into one of the fastest-growing technical communities at Graphic Era University. Through hands-on workshops, certification drives, hackathons, project-based learning, technical talks, and community events, the group has created a space where students don't just learn technology—they build with it. In the present-day engineering world, it is not enough to simply have theoretical knowledge. Graduates need to better figure out ways to architect cloud solutions, automate deployments, create scalable applications, and change with fast-growing technologies.
AWS Student Builder Group GEU responds to this challenge by creating opportunities for students to learn through designing. All activities aim to transform group members from passive students into builders who can deploy real applications, understand production environments, and contribute to team-based efforts.
The group believes that actual learning occurs through practice, which is why all seminars, challenges, and occasions are oriented on real experiences.

Cloud Ignite '26 — Where the Journey Began
Every community has a moment that marks the beginning of its journey.
For the AWS Student Builder Group GEU, that moment was Cloud Ignite '26—the event that officially introduced the chapter to the students of Graphic Era University.
More than just an inaugural event, Cloud Ignite '26 was designed to give students their first real experience with cloud computing. Instead of simply listening to presentations, participants explored AWS through hands-on activities, deployed their very first live website, and discovered how cloud technologies power the applications and services we use every day.
The response from students was overwhelming. The event received over 350 registrations, and due to venue limitations, participation was capped at 120+ students. The gathering was graced by distinguished faculty members, including Dr. Durga Prasad Gangodkar and Dr. Amit Kumar, whose encouragement highlighted the importance of emerging cloud technologies in today's rapidly evolving tech landscape.
The student leadership team played a key role in making the event a success by organising technical sessions, live demonstrations, and interactive learning experiences that kept participants engaged throughout the day. For many attendees, it was their first opportunity to work with AWS and understand how cloud platforms are used to build, deploy, and scale real-world applications.
Cloud Ignite '26 was more than the launch of a student community—it was the start of a culture centred around building, experimenting, and learning together. It inspired students to take their first steps into cloud computing while opening doors to exciting career paths in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, and Backend Development. The event laid a strong foundation for the AWS Student Builder Group and set the stage for many more learning opportunities to come.
AWS Builder Challenge 2026 — Transforming Learners into Builders
Building on the momentum of its successful launch, the AWS Student Builder Group GEU introduced one of its flagship initiatives—the AWS Builder Challenge 2026.
Designed as a 21-day cloud learning journey, the challenge aimed to help students develop a solid understanding of cloud computing while preparing them for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) certification. It wasn't just about completing lessons—it was about building consistency, gaining practical experience, and learning alongside a community of like-minded peers.
Throughout the three weeks, participants followed a structured learning path that combined theory with hands-on practice. Daily learning missions, guided exercises, mentorship sessions, mock tests, and interactive discussions kept students engaged as they progressed from cloud fundamentals to working with real AWS services. With continuous support from mentors and fellow participants, learning became a collaborative and rewarding experience.
The response to the challenge reflected the growing enthusiasm for cloud technologies within the university community. The initiative received 426 registrations, with 161 students successfully completing the entire program. Along the way, participants gained valuable hands-on AWS experience, strengthened their certification readiness.
More importantly, the AWS Builder Challenge was about much more than certification preparation. It encouraged students to stay consistent, think critically, solve real problems, and build the confidence to take on more advanced cloud technologies. For many participants, it marked the beginning of a long-term journey into the world of AWS and cloud engineering.

My wife and I all digitizing ALL of my family's old VHS family videos, photo prints, negatives, and slides for archival. I would like to put up a family media server so everyone in the family can log in and enjoy the content. I personally have Immich for my own photos and Jellyfin for my own movies
AWS makes it incredibly easy to provision infrastructure.
Sometimes, a little too easy.
An EC2 instance gets created for a project. A volume survives after the instance is terminated. A snapshot is kept "just in case." A development environment runs all night even though nobody is using it.

I currently have traefik, crowdsec, authentik in my homelab, I have a dedicated ipv4 address and only 4 users. I can connect back via WireGuard for not public available tools like management tools etc. Things like immich, neko and drawio etc are behind authentik OIDC/OAuth or forward auth proxy. I w
